Lot Eight Oil Maker’s Blend is the foundational extra virgin olive oil of the brand and this year's edition is typical of the style: an intense blend with a strong polyphenolic count. It is made with the Frantoio, Leccino and Barnea cultivars.
Each year, a selection of olive varieties is brought together to create a perfectly balanced oil (for example fine olive oils harmonise the contrasting forces of smoothness and the desirable bitterness of the polyphenols.
In this blend fruitiness and herbaceous notes sit comfortably alongside one another. It’s designed to suit many palates and just as many kitchens - a versatile olive oil you can reach for in all culinary situations.
Use as a dipping oil, or drizzle generously to finish warm or cold dishes.Drizzle over salads to lift fresh seasonal produce. Use it as a final garnish for entrées and mains, or toss through warm vegetables just before serving. It works beautifully with pasta, risotto, poultry and steak, and brings particular depth to vegetarian dishes.
In spring and summer, it will enhance the flavour of herbs, garden vegetables and fresh fish. In winter, use it from the very start: warming it gently to caramelise onions, vegetables or meat for stews, tagines and casseroles.

About the Producer
'Based in the renowned wine region of Martinborough, New Zealand, LOT EIGHT is a boutique artisan producer founded in 1997 by Colin and Nalini Baruch. As pioneers in the New Zealand olive industry, the estate has evolved from a small home block into a regional leader that manages the entire production cycle from "grove to table."
The estate features approximately 400 trees, including Italian, Israeli, and Spanish varieties, supplemented by fruit from over a carefully selected contracted growers. This collaborative model allows for a seasonal output of roughly 40 tons of fruit, processed at local mills in Carterton and Featherston. LOT EIGHT is particularly celebrated for its fragrant oils, which are created by milling fresh ingredients like citrus or herbs simultaneously with the olives to ensure deep, integrated flavors.
Their flagship product, the "Oil Maker’s Blend," has been a staple since 2002, frequently winning "Best in Show" at the New Zealand Extra Virgin Olive Oil Awards. Innovation remains a hallmark of the brand, highlighted by their Yuzu Olive Oil - a world-first.'
